Hello everyone and welcome to the first ever Death or Glory Painting Competition!
We know for some people 40k isn't about tournament gaming, as such we are celebrating this with our own 40k Painting competition at the same time as our 82 man tournament.

Dark Mechanicus (Lord of Change and DOG List)
So after a few more games with
the Great Unclean One I have finally given up on him.
He is too slow and doesn’t allow me to reach out against the heavy fire power lists, so in comes the Lord of Change.
The Lord of Change has speed, resilience, damage output and through psychic powers helps out the rest of my army. The biggest problem I was finding was how to make him in my Dark Mechanicus style. But fresh from the painting table here he is with a few work in progress shots as well. Hope you like.

Dark Mechanicus The Welder (Herald of Tzeentch)
Ok so I’m back on track, it’s a Friday and I am posting something...
So I keep changing my mind as to what I want in my tournament army big surprise. I can’t ever decide and with a few of the upcoming tournaments being 1650 it makes it even harder. The rules for the upcoming Brighton Warlords tournament don’t help me either with a restriction on flyers (max 3). Anyways this has led me to change my army a bit and throw in some daemon allies to try and make my shooting stuff Forgefiend/ obliterators more effective. I want to do this by adding a Herald of Tzeentch. Access to Divination is very good when combined with certain units in the chaos codex and I aim to exploit this. So how am I to arm him?

Dark Mechanicus (Chaos Sorcerer)
Hi guys sorry I’m late with this one but I had a few finishing touches to do to this model before I posted pics of him.
I talked in an earlier post about chaos characters and which ones I thought were good and not so good for their points. The sorcerer is one of the ones who I would consider a good choice and I think has got even better with the runes of warding nerf in the new Eldar codex.
So how is this guy equipped?
Sorcerer (unmarked) force axe, level 2 and a spell familiar all for 100 pts this is cheap and effective. I will probably always be using telepathy as the powers in that tree work very well to shut down other armies this is a big help in a chaos list.

Dark Mechanicus (Painting Update)
Hi all ive got my ass back into gear and done some more painting this week. After last week’s post I had a focus to work on the big unit of Slaanesh CSM's I had talked about. I wanted to give them the Slaanesh look but also not ruin my overall army look or theme.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th - Resurrection
Hi Guys,
So over the last few months I have started looking at different projects including the Tau and Dark Angels. Unfortunately as much as I wanted to get behind them that just havened lived up to what I had hoped in terms of modelling and painting opportunity. So although I had a lot of fun painting them they just didn’t have that spark. Any who know me will understand I like to have an army that is different and unique it’s got to have a WTF! Element to it. This has led me back to my Dark Mechanicus as they continue to tick all my boxes.

Tau in 6th (Part 4 Ethereal and Fire Warriors painting update)
Hello again, it’s not been too long this time but I have a few more finished bits to share with you. I will start with the Tau Ethereal I have converted and painted. The Idea of the Ethereals being the spiritual leaders of the Tau has always appealed to me. They have the ultimate power over their own race with a Fire warrior willing to give his life for the cause to please the ethereal. I have mostly run an ethereal in the past when playing with my Tau through 3rd and 4th Ed even then they were crap but I enjoyed the challenge of trying to keep them alive. Anyway enough of my rambling and onto the model.

Tau in 6th (Part 3 Airbrushing a Devilfish step by step)
It’s been a few weeks since I last posted, but I thought it was about time I did a tutorial on how I am painting my Tau tanks, and also show the final finished item with weathering and chipping.
The first thing to say is that getting a decent airbrush and compressor is quite an expense to initially set up. I would suggest asking somebody who has one to try it out before buying. However once this is paid for, and if you look after it properly it will last you forever.
There are 2 main reasons to use an airbrush in my eyes and they are speed, and the smoothness of the coat of paint.
Anyway enough of that into the step by step guide.

Tau in 6th (Part 2 Painting Update)
So as I promised I will post pics of the start of my Tau army. I used an airbrush to paint them quickly and will do a tutorial of how I did this in the coming weeks. This is a different way of painting to my normal way which is to paint a model at a time. The idea behind this is to get the army on the table to start playing and then to detail up all the models in the future.

A New Year, A New Project (Fallenwing)
So let me start by saying Happy New Year and apologising for my absence over the last month. Christmas is always a busy time of year for me but although I haven’t done any painting it gave me plenty of time to brainstorm.
So the idea...

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Painting update The Dark Mechanic Arrives)
So with the exception of completing all the basing the army for Brighton is complete. I waited until the end to do the model for the Dark Mechanic himself. I wanted to give myself a treat at the end of finishing painting zombie Necron warriors and other units. For the back story i wanted to use one of the Dark Mechanicum Characters that is on the warhammer 40k wiki, and then bring him to life. The character Phayzarus caught my imagination with his hatred of Space marines and the idea he has rebuild his body completely to be a regenerating construct of flesh and steel. Below I have put his history. I found this and a lot of my other info on the Dark Mechanicus on this site http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Mechanicus.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Destroyer Lord)
So I had the day off work and decided to get started on my destroyer lord. I wanted him to look like my wraiths as he is going in that unit and seeing how well Kaelarr and Luke did at the weekend with these units, I was really motivated to work on him. I even managed to finish him all today so posted him. I also decided to do step by step photos of him so anyone can see how I work. This is not by any means a fully blown tutorial but if anyone wants to ask how I did any of the bits not listed in this post I will do so in the future, or answer any comments below.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Painting update)
So I have been doing a bit more painting and have now finished the 2 flyers. The second one is made in exactly the same way as the first but with a few different components. I have also finished off the bases. So I thought it was time I shared them with you.
Hope you enjoy.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Part 4 new flyer)
So I’ve been busy the last few weeks, work has been manic however I have still managed to produce a small amount of hobby to share. Seeing as Kaelarr has been ranting about flyers the last few weeks I felt inspired to rework my Dark Mechanicus flyers, so I will be talking about the construction and painting side of this today.
I wasn’t very happy with my original flyer shown a few weeks ago on here, it was missing something. So I set to work redesigning it to fit in better with the overall look of my army. I wanted to make it more daemon looking like my stalker (Greater Daemon of Nurgle). I found this a challenge until I remembered the blight drone from forge world, so I worked on an idea of a cross between that and a Hell blade to represent my Night Scythes.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th ( Part 3 CMON and a quick list update)
CMON
Ok this is just a quick update firstly I will be putting pics of some of my Dark Mechanicus up on coolminiornot, if you are unfamiliar with this it is a website, that hosts photos of peoples models and allows you to rate and comment on them (its also great for inspiration). I thought due to the quite unique look of my army I would start to post photos on there to see how people reacted and the initial reactions to the Greater Daemon have been very positive. If you are interested in looking on there for my stuff if you search artist RichFielder (one word) you will find him and other things I have been working on in the past including some Grey Knights and Space Wolves.
Army List Update
I’m slowly closing on an army list and this is important with the GT heats and Octoberfest both coming up very soon. Necrons are one of the winners from the changes to 6th ed. This is down to allot of things but the more I play the more I think it is down to mainly 1 weapon and that is the twin linked tesla destructors. Now these were

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Part 2)
So I thought I would give people an update on my Dark Mechanicus. My army list is still under work at the moment as im always finding new tricks to throw in or new ideas to try. There are a few things I think are a must in any Necron army now and that starts with Necron warriors with the majority of tanks dying to 3 glancing hits and rapid fire weapons getting the ability to move and fire 24” the gauss rifles just got very good in 6th. For anyone who doesn’t know, gauss weapons glance any vehicle on a natural roll of a 6 that means 3 6’s and dead vehicle in 6th. The other thing that may not be a must have but would be up there is the use of flyers. Now Necron are unique in the fact that they have flyer as dedicated transport for troops so you can get allot of them and with the night scythes putting out the 4 x s7 tesla shots they are a solid transport. I predict seeing allot of Necron lists very flyer heavy but I will start with 1 or 2 to see how they feel in my army and if I can get them to fit my theme.
That’s enough the list part and onto the creative part. A bit of background, the Dark Mechanicus have no official structure or chain of command and can often be just a single Heratek working on his own. This got me thinking if I was working for the dark gods I would need bodies to help build my evil constructs. So reading through some of the background for them I found that there were a few dark priests who experimented on humans and turned them into what I can only describe as zombies. I thought this fitted my theme perfectly so set to work constructing zombies with bionic eye lasers etc... I feel these guys have come out really well and it will spur me on to do many more of these guys maybe with more and more augmentations.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th
Ok so it has been a while since I have posted on Death or Glory. Since that initial post my army has come to life and even made a tournament appearance before the death of 5th ed. If you wish to follow the progress of the army towards the end of 5th you can do so on thedarkmechanic.blogspot.com, however I will post most of the current models in this post as a catch up.
Something worth mentioning at this juncture is that although we at Death or Glory are a 40k tournament team, we all have different loves for the hobby, for me personally the artistic and creative side takes precedence over just being a pure WAAC gamer. With this in mind you will find my articles based more around theme, painting and conversion rather than an in depth analysis of codex’s etc...
So how would this 5th ed Dark Mechanicus army now work in 6th? The first thing I had to consider (not being from its own codex) was do I stick with using the Necron codex? With the addition of allies there may be a better way of representing the Mechanicums dark brothers. So after about a week of thought, I decided that I would stick with Necron rules and start looking to a new theme for them to allow me to change away from what I considered to be a 5th ed list the Scarab Farm.
This process is underway but not complete as of yet. However things that will now be coming into the list will be flyers, and although 6th ed may start pushing us away from vehicles a small amount I see them playing a big part in the future of my army. There is even the possibility of some Jokearo’s making an appearance along with a mini knight titan (dread knight) as I consider including Grey Knight allies.
I thought for now I would post a gallery of some of my current models to wet the appetite for any budding dark apprentices out there.
