Dark Mechanicus (Lord of Change and DOG List)

So after a few more games with the Great Unclean One I have finally given up on him.

He is too slow and doesn’t allow me to reach out against the heavy fire power lists, so in comes the Lord of Change.
The Lord of Change has speed, resilience, damage output and through psychic powers helps out the rest of my army. The biggest problem I was finding was how to make him in my Dark Mechanicus style. But fresh from the painting table here he is with a few work in progress shots as well. Hope you like.

Dark Mechanicus (My Brighton List Review)

So you will hear on the podcast how my games went but I thought I would review the list I took and which parts worked well and which parts didn’t. And also look at what I would keep going forward.

I will rate each unit out of 5

Dark Mechanicus (My Brighton List)

Ok so I am off to my first tournament in about 8/9 months YAY!!! What I will do here is talk a little about the tournament, what’s in my list and a summary of why it’s in my list.
So this tournament is run by the Brighton Warlords in a decent venue an old pub.
Things to know before selecting lists.
1.)    Its 1650pts
2.)    Any Forgeworld allowed as long as it  doesn’t have structure points or is a gargantuan creature.
3.)    Forgeworld army lists allowed
4.)    MAX 3 FLYERS
5.)    MAX 10 MODELS WITH INTERCEPT/ SKYFIRE

Dark Mechanicus The Welder (Herald of Tzeentch)

Ok so I’m back on track, it’s a Friday and I am posting something...
So I keep changing my mind as to what I want in my tournament army big surprise. I can’t ever decide and with a few of the upcoming tournaments being 1650 it makes it even harder. The rules for the upcoming Brighton Warlords tournament don’t help me either with a restriction on flyers (max 3). Anyways this has led me to change my army a bit and throw in some daemon allies to try and make my shooting stuff Forgefiend/ obliterators more effective. I want to do this by adding a Herald of Tzeentch. Access to Divination is very good when combined with certain units in the chaos codex and I aim to exploit this. So how am I to arm him?

Dark Mechanicus Forgefiend

Let’s start with a Sorry...  I know it’s been a long time since I last posted. Time constraints from work followed by going on holiday, I have been hugely busy. This left me little time to think about let alone do any hobby.
So with a few tournaments upcoming it was time to get on with some painting and list building. I have decided to try out a Forgefiend in my list to see how effective they are. I’m thinking with rerolls to hit from an allied in herald of Tzeentch they could be quite devastating and if I have 6 obliterators and 3 Heldrakes running around may not even be a big priority.

Dark Mechanicus (Chaos Sorcerer)

Hi guys sorry I’m late with this one but I had a few finishing touches to do to this model before I posted pics of him.

I talked in an earlier post about chaos characters and which ones I thought were good and not so good for their points. The sorcerer is one of the ones who I would consider a good choice and I think has got even better with the runes of warding nerf in the new Eldar codex.

So how is this guy equipped?

Sorcerer (unmarked) force axe, level 2 and a spell familiar all for 100 pts this is cheap and effective. I will probably always be using telepathy as the powers in that tree work very well to shut down other armies this is a big help in a chaos list.

Dark Mechanicus (Painting Update)

Hi all ive got my ass back into gear and done some more painting this week. After last week’s post I had a focus to work on the big unit of Slaanesh CSM's I had talked about. I wanted to give them the Slaanesh look but also not ruin my overall army look or theme.

Dark Mechanicus (Chaos Marines Troop Review Part 1)

Hi guys this week I will be running through the normal Troops section of the chaos codex and how I see them being used.

Chaos Space Marines

At 13 pts each they look like a great deal on paper compared with their more expensive imperial counterparts however there are several reasons for this. The main being they don’t have ATSKNF which is a big deal. The other reasons are they can’t combat squad so this reduces flexibility in scoring and kill point missions, and they don’t have combat tactics.

Dark Mechanicus (Heldrake Painted)

Hi all this week I am bringing you a quick update on my Heldrake. He is almost done just needing the weathering finished with powders, and basing, but I thought I would share him with you anyway.

Dark Mechanicus (Chaos Marine Special Characters + Hobby Update)

So last time I talked about Chaos Marine HQ's but you can’t finish looking at HQ options without looking at some of the big boys with a back story. To start with I think most of the Chaos Special Characters are well pointed none stupidly over pointed and none obviously under pointed like we have seen in a few of the 5th ed books Cough.." Coteaz "

So let’s get on with it.

Abaddon The Despoiler
He is the official boss man of this codex, weighing in at more points than a land raider you would expect him to be good.

First of all let’s look at the hitting power he has. He has the option of two weapons to use, The Talon of Horus an AP3, reroll to wound, 2x strength lightning claw. Or His Daemon sword that gives him an extra d6 attacks +1 strength and an AP of 2, this all comes in with a stat line including WS 7 and I 6.

Dark Mechanicus (Chaos Marines HQ review)

So as I start to rebuild my Dark Mechanicus as a more fitting Chaos Marine list, I will try to take you through my thought process looking at units in the chaos codex and how I can use them to build a competitive/ themed army for the UK tournament scene in 6th Ed.

Chaos HQ's

The Champion of Chaos Rule:
This is something to bear in mind to start with if you are going for a combat lord. Anyone with this rule must challenge if in combat. This can be bad as your opponent can use this in some situations.

Chaos Lord

A solid choice, as he is cheap and has fearless as standard. He can be useful without any Mark of Chaos, if you want as he is able to join units of any god. The other big thing about the Chaos Lord is that he unlocks Cult troops as a troop choice. The main use of this seems to be either Nurgle to unlock Plague Marines, or a Slaanesh lord to unlock Noise Marines.

How would I Equip Him...?

Dark Mechanicus in 6th - Resurrection

Hi Guys,

So over the last few months I have started looking at different projects including the Tau and Dark Angels. Unfortunately as much as I wanted to get behind them that just havened lived up to what I had hoped in terms of modelling and painting opportunity. So although I had a lot of fun painting them they just didn’t have that spark. Any who know me will understand I like to have an army that is different and unique it’s got to have a WTF! Element to it. This has led me back to my Dark Mechanicus as they continue to tick all my boxes.

Dark Mechanicus (Unit Review and Army Shot)

I’ve now had time to reflect on the last 2 tournaments, the way I played what worked and what didn’t so well and also to think about my own play style. So what I will do is run through the army I took to the tournaments and rate the unit and also my application of those units.

Ratings as followed

(++) Awesome a must include in the future/ Milked it for all its worth
(+) Decent must be considered for future projects / I used it well
(=) OK
(-) Crap unit / I used it like a chump
(--) What was I f%*&ing thinking including this.

Dark Mechanicus (Tornament and Painting Update)

Firstly I must apologise for taking my sweet time over getting another post up here. 2 tournaments in 2 weekends and the associated painting burnt me out for a week or so but I’m back and feeling good.

Review of tournaments’

Painting...
So this was the main driver behind the Dark Mechanicus army, I like to play with nicely painted toys. At the Brighton gt heat 2, I qualified as one of the top 5 best armies placing second behind a very nicely painted Necron army with grey knight allies. At Mayhem I managed to fight off competition from some lovely armies to take home the trophy for best army which had eluded me last year. Overall this was very successful with lots of interest in the army, and will inspire me to continue on with this project.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Painting update The Dark Mechanic Arrives)

So with the exception of completing all the basing the army for Brighton is complete. I waited until the end to do the model for the Dark Mechanic himself. I wanted to give myself a treat at the end of finishing painting zombie Necron warriors and other units. For the back story i wanted to use one of the Dark Mechanicum Characters that is on the warhammer 40k wiki, and then bring him to life. The character Phayzarus caught my imagination with his hatred of Space marines and the idea he has rebuild his body completely to be a regenerating construct of flesh and steel.  Below I have put his history. I found this and a lot of my other info on the Dark Mechanicus on this site http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Mechanicus.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (The List)

Ok so after several months of trying to decide on what to put in my list it finally happened I actually made a decision on the list and how I want it to play. I had already talked about certain units that I wanted in the list but I needed to construct the whole list. When I am list building I have a few restrictions over your normal tornie player, they are the rule of cool (exactly what it says on the tin I may want to use something for coolness factor). And model count (I like to make my army’s look nice and a bit different but this takes time so I try to limit my lists to as few models as I can).

Now I have explained my restrictions I will post my army list for the upcoming Brighton tornie.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Destroyer Lord)

So I had the day off work and decided to get started on my destroyer lord. I wanted him to look like my wraiths as he is going in that unit and seeing how well Kaelarr and Luke did at the weekend with these units, I was really motivated to work on him. I even managed to finish him all today so posted him. I also decided to do step by step photos of him so anyone can see how I work. This is not by any means a fully blown tutorial but if anyone wants to ask how I did any of the bits not listed in this post I will do so in the future, or answer any comments below.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Painting update)

So I have been doing a bit more painting and have now finished the 2 flyers. The second one is made in exactly the same way as the first but with a few different components. I have also finished off the bases. So I thought it was time I shared them with you.

Hope you enjoy.

Necrons Do you need allies? Or forever alone?

Ok so let’s analyse the most common reasons for having allies in your army.  In 6th ed there seems to be a number of reason you would like to take allies but I think 3 reasons at high level tournament play you would need allies, these are.
+ No flyers
++ No way to kill Flyers
+++ Crap holding units
