Dark Eldar: Nemesis – Necrons

Dark Eldar: Nemesis – Necrons

So back to Nemesis this week and the big cheese at the moment, Necrons. I have a sad confession to make. I played in three tournaments with these guys and I have to say I still feel a bit dirty.

I was playing these guys end of 5th just as my Dark Eldar were struggling on the tournament scene. There ability to cover every angle appealed to many tournament gamer and frankly after a while just put me off. Theres no doubt these guys are powerful but the question is how about now?

Tournament Gamers Painting Masterclass 9: John Swallow – Necrons

Tournament Gamers Painting Masterclass 9: Andrew Taylor – John Swallow

So when I was at the Caledonian uprising the other week and I wondered over to my table, I noticed this shining crypt type thing on the table. Did someone leave this from a Warhammer tournament? Is this some sorta massive LOS scenery? No this was the scenic base of John Swallow. It’s rare to see sceneric bases these days especially in tournaments where they aren’t needed for points. It certainly was eye catching…. I caught up with Master Swallow and this is what he had to say.

Sisters of Battle - Looks Good on Paper©

'No army is big enough to conquer the galaxy. But faith alone can overturn the universe.'
- Ecclesiarch Deacis IX, Codex Imperialis

Last night I pitched the list I posted previously against one of the top armies currently on circuit.

I am informed that this list was created by the infamous Joshua Roberts® over at 40KUK© and was used at the recent Caledonian Uprising tournament - although it is very similar to what our very own Luke Nurser® was using towards the end of 5th and into 6th.

Tournament Gamers Painting Masterclass 7: Michael Bolton – Necrons

Tournament Gamers Painting Masterclass 7: Michael Bolton – Necrons

Michael Bolton. A famous American singer songwriter renowned for his soft rock ballads. He’s not however known for his painting prowess. His name sake however is! Michael is a veteran of the tournament scene having been around for year and years. We crossed paths in the Master open tournament in January 2011. I was told before my first game ‘Expect to see something wacky’. Of course what this person meant by this was expect to see 27 ogryns…. He recently placed in the painting for the GT heat 3 and so i got in touch. Michael plays around the Nottingham area going to as many Mansfield and Nottingham tournaments and if your there say hi to him!have a look at his own blog here http://22michaelb.wordpress.com/ but for now just read his amazing story!

Dark Mechanicus (Unit Review and Army Shot)

I’ve now had time to reflect on the last 2 tournaments, the way I played what worked and what didn’t so well and also to think about my own play style. So what I will do is run through the army I took to the tournaments and rate the unit and also my application of those units.

Ratings as followed

(++) Awesome a must include in the future/ Milked it for all its worth
(+) Decent must be considered for future projects / I used it well
(=) OK
(-) Crap unit / I used it like a chump
(--) What was I f%*&ing thinking including this.

Dark Mechanicus (Tornament and Painting Update)

Firstly I must apologise for taking my sweet time over getting another post up here. 2 tournaments in 2 weekends and the associated painting burnt me out for a week or so but I’m back and feeling good.

Review of tournaments’

Painting...
So this was the main driver behind the Dark Mechanicus army, I like to play with nicely painted toys. At the Brighton gt heat 2, I qualified as one of the top 5 best armies placing second behind a very nicely painted Necron army with grey knight allies. At Mayhem I managed to fight off competition from some lovely armies to take home the trophy for best army which had eluded me last year. Overall this was very successful with lots of interest in the army, and will inspire me to continue on with this project.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Painting update The Dark Mechanic Arrives)

So with the exception of completing all the basing the army for Brighton is complete. I waited until the end to do the model for the Dark Mechanic himself. I wanted to give myself a treat at the end of finishing painting zombie Necron warriors and other units. For the back story i wanted to use one of the Dark Mechanicum Characters that is on the warhammer 40k wiki, and then bring him to life. The character Phayzarus caught my imagination with his hatred of Space marines and the idea he has rebuild his body completely to be a regenerating construct of flesh and steel.  Below I have put his history. I found this and a lot of my other info on the Dark Mechanicus on this site http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Mechanicus.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (The List)

Ok so after several months of trying to decide on what to put in my list it finally happened I actually made a decision on the list and how I want it to play. I had already talked about certain units that I wanted in the list but I needed to construct the whole list. When I am list building I have a few restrictions over your normal tornie player, they are the rule of cool (exactly what it says on the tin I may want to use something for coolness factor). And model count (I like to make my army’s look nice and a bit different but this takes time so I try to limit my lists to as few models as I can).

Now I have explained my restrictions I will post my army list for the upcoming Brighton tornie.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Destroyer Lord)

So I had the day off work and decided to get started on my destroyer lord. I wanted him to look like my wraiths as he is going in that unit and seeing how well Kaelarr and Luke did at the weekend with these units, I was really motivated to work on him. I even managed to finish him all today so posted him. I also decided to do step by step photos of him so anyone can see how I work. This is not by any means a fully blown tutorial but if anyone wants to ask how I did any of the bits not listed in this post I will do so in the future, or answer any comments below.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Painting update)

So I have been doing a bit more painting and have now finished the 2 flyers. The second one is made in exactly the same way as the first but with a few different components. I have also finished off the bases. So I thought it was time I shared them with you.

Hope you enjoy.

6th Edition – Breaking the Mould

6th Edition – Breaking the Mould

Hello everyone today I’m gunna have a swift blog about the conservative nature of many a gamer. Let me explain…

As you may have read I’m a avid Dark Eldar Player. When 6th edition hit I couldn’t wait to plough into them again and do new things with my existing army. Problem was all the armies I was taking were in all intents are purposes the same as my previous attempt….. very similar to my 5th edition army.

Necrons Do you need allies? Or forever alone?

Ok so let’s analyse the most common reasons for having allies in your army.  In 6th ed there seems to be a number of reason you would like to take allies but I think 3 reasons at high level tournament play you would need allies, these are.
+ No flyers
++ No way to kill Flyers
+++ Crap holding units

The Art of Dark Eldar: The First Attempt

The Art of Dark Eldar: The first Attempt

So it’s time I better put an army up! The below list is my first attempt at an army list. It is the army I will possibly use for the upcoming Aldershot tournament. This first attempt is a pure dark Eldar army. The reason for this being that I wanna be trying out new Dark Eldar units and abilities. I’ve had a few games against Luke the Liabilities Necrons and I’ll tell you guys how it went below.

What allies will I use I hear you cry? Well for Brighton I was thinking Imperial guard but I’ll get to that at the next blog. For Mayhem I was going to go Eldar but again I’ll get to that on a later blog.

So without further ado I give to you my first attempt!

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Part 4 new flyer)

So I’ve been busy the last few weeks, work has been manic however I have still managed to produce a small amount of hobby to share.  Seeing as Kaelarr  has been ranting about flyers the last few weeks I felt inspired to rework my Dark Mechanicus flyers, so I will be talking about the construction and painting side of this today.
I wasn’t very happy with my original flyer shown a few weeks ago on here, it was missing something. So I set to work redesigning it to fit in better with the overall look of my army. I wanted to make it more daemon looking like my stalker (Greater Daemon of Nurgle). I found this a challenge until I remembered the blight drone from forge world, so I worked on an idea of a cross between that and a Hell blade to represent my Night Scythes.

Dark Mechanicus in 6th ( Part 3 CMON and a quick list update)

CMON
Ok this is just a quick update firstly I will be putting pics of some of my Dark Mechanicus up on coolminiornot, if you are unfamiliar with this it is a website, that hosts photos of peoples models and allows you to rate and comment on them (its also great for inspiration). I thought due to the quite unique look of my army I would start to post photos on there to see how people reacted and the initial reactions to the Greater Daemon have been very positive. If you are interested in looking on there for my stuff if you search artist RichFielder (one word) you will find him and other things I have been working on in the past including some Grey Knights and Space Wolves.

Army List Update
I’m slowly closing on an army list and this is important with the GT heats and Octoberfest both coming up very soon. Necrons are one of the winners from the changes to 6th ed. This is down to allot of things but the more I play the more I think it is down to mainly 1 weapon and that is the twin linked tesla destructors. Now these were

Dark Mechanicus in 6th (Part 2)

So I thought I would give people an update on my Dark Mechanicus. My army list is still under work at the moment as im always finding new tricks to throw in or new ideas to try. There are a few things I think are a must in any Necron army now and that starts with Necron warriors with the majority of tanks dying to 3 glancing hits and rapid fire weapons getting the ability to move and fire 24”  the gauss rifles just got very good in 6th. For anyone who doesn’t know, gauss weapons glance any vehicle on a natural roll of a 6 that means 3 6’s and dead vehicle in 6th. The other thing that may not be a must have but would be up there is the use of flyers. Now Necron are unique in the fact that they have flyer as dedicated transport for troops so you can get allot of them and with the night scythes putting out the 4 x s7 tesla shots they are a solid transport. I predict seeing allot of Necron lists very flyer heavy but I will start with 1 or 2 to see how they feel in my army and if I can get them to fit my theme.

That’s enough the list part and onto the creative part. A bit of background, the Dark Mechanicus have no official structure or chain of command and can often be just a single Heratek working on his own. This got me thinking if I was working for the dark gods I would need bodies to help build my evil constructs. So reading through some of the background for them I found that there were a few dark priests who experimented on humans and turned them into what I can only describe as zombies. I thought this fitted my theme perfectly so set to work constructing zombies with bionic eye lasers etc... I feel these guys have come out really well and it will spur me on to do many more of these guys maybe with more and more augmentations.
